It used to be called “plinking” but now it’s often referred to as
informal target shooting. Whatever you care to call it, shooting at
small targets that react and move is a lot of fun.
Plinking became less common over the past few decades because of the
loss of unstructured shooting facilities and problems with leftover
shot up targets. While it’s a lot more fun to shoot at targets that move
when they’re hit, it sometimes left a mess that didn’t get cleaned up.
The hazard posed by ricochets from targets placed directly on the ground
became a problem too.
